Recently listed for sale, this Jugend inkwell depicting Mercury the Messenger decided not to move.
After a ten day run online no one purchased this piece, which was found at an old country auction. Part of a recently divided Swedish Estate, this Art Nouveau inkwell went up on the auction block. The auction house was an old animal barn, far out in the Swedish country side. There was one other, main competitor, for this item, and the bidding was quick and high. I, the glorious victor proudly packed it away in the Volvo. But, perhaps for its lost luster and shine this Mercury Inkwell is destined to sit in the stockroom to yet face another day, again, perhaps, in the open market, so that Mercury may again, find a home. For, alas, no one bid on this piece when it was listed on an online auction, so, what once had a real home, a place in someone's living room or study, it now resides on a cold, metal shelf in a cold, humidity controlled storage room. But Mercury will wait patiently until that day, he finds a new home.
